The much anticipated new ticketing system MyWay+ has just launched in Canberra, providing an easy way to plan and pay for bus and light rail travel.
The new system allows users to tap on and off with a new MyWay+ transport card or certain contactless bank cards. Old MyWay cards no longer work, but all funds on an old card can be transferred to the new card without any cost.
Passengers can also pay using their digital wallet or through a new app, but there is some set up involved in those payment methods.

As part of the system, a new MyWay+ app has also launched, allowing users to top up their travel card, receive notifications when their account is low on funds, and check if a bus has a bike rack.
The app also has personalised real time journey planning and real time service updates, and can manage in-app tickets and contactless payment options on travel cards.
The system includes a real-time journey planner through the Transport Canberra website and the MyWay+ app, which is available for both Apple and Android.
“The go live of MyWay+ represents a significant step forward for attracting more bus and light rail users. The system provides powerful journey planning, live service updates and more ways to pay,” Transport Canberra deputy director-general Ben McHugh says.
“MyWay+ will make catching public transport simpler to use by allowing people to use a debit or credit card. People also have the option of establishing an account which they can top up, track their transaction history and link payment options.
“We’ve already seen well over 20,000 MyWay+ accounts set up since that functionality was established just over a week ago. Over 14,000 people have also already got MyWay+ cards.
“This is a great new system and we know people need to take time to learn how it works. That’s why Transport Canberra will be taking an educative approach to fare compliance as people adjust to the changes.”
To add credit to a MyWay+ travel card, visit a retail outlet, use a ticket vending machine, top up online through the MyWay+ account or MyWay+ app.
Passengers can also purchase a paper ticket from a vending machine located at light rail stations (ticket vending machines for bus stations will be installed in coming weeks).
“We know that change can be stressful. It is also a big change for how our drivers and staff, including call centre operators. I would ask that all Canberrans be respectful of our staff as we navigate this change together. Our drivers are also learning the system and they need to focus on driving safely,” McHugh says.
“For anyone who is looking for more information on how to get on board with MyWay+ I encourage you to visit www.transport.act.gov.au where there is a wealth of resources, including guides for seniors, guides for parents of students and video tutorials on topics such as how to set up MyWay+ accounts.
“We will also have staff at interchanges and shopping centres throughout this week – and in coming weeks – providing information.
“If you need to talk to someone please contact our customer service team on 13 17 10 and they can walk you through what you need.
“We have been listening to your feedback and we will be continuing to make improvements to MyWay+.”
