Fuel manufacturer Caltex will open a new diesel tank in the Queensland region of Mackay as part of plans to expand its operations in the area.
The new 27 million litre tank will be officially opened tomorrow to service the booming mining industry in the Bowen Basin.
Caltex’s national distribution manager, Mike Raleigh, says industry growth in the mining, rail and road transport sectors is at an all time high and Caltex is taking advantage of it.
The company has also announced a second 27 million litre diesel tank at Mackay Port’s terminal, while Gladstone’s terminal will also receive a 15 million litre tank. Both projects are due to be completed next year.
“We are investing for the long-term in central Queensland,” Raleigh says.
“Australia is experiencing major growth in the diesel market in Queensland and we want to play a greater part in that growth.”
Raleigh says total investment in Gladstone and Mackay exceeds $30 million, which he adds will create a more efficient and reliable supply chain for diesel to service demand in the regions.
The announcement follows a $320 million investment in a diesel hydrotreating unit at Caltex’s Lytton refinery in 2009.
