Transit Systems will welcome a new leader into a different position, starting in December this year
Australian public transport operator Transit Systems will welcome industry expert Michael McGee as the new Chief Executive Officer from December 12, 2022.
McGee will take over from outgoing Chief Operating Officer Greg Balkin, with the role repositioned into CEO to reflect the excelled growth and new potential in Australian transport.
Kelsian Group CEO Clint Feuerherdt says McGee will be responsible for the strategic direction and all operations of the Transit Systems businesses, including Go West, Horizons West and RiverCity Ferries.
“Transit Systems is geared for growth, with an incredible team, contracted revenue and exciting possibilities that leverage Kelsian Group’s portfolio capabilities,” he says.
“Michael is a highly experienced executive, having held senior positions in the public transport, financial services, technology, and logistics sectors.
“We are pleased to welcome Michael as Transit Systems continues to build upon its leading position in Australia, delivering operational excellence across public buses, education transport and the resource sector.”
McGee has extensive knowledge in the transportation sector, having worked recently as the CEO for netBI, a data software platform and analytics solution for the transport sector.
“Michael is well placed to develop efficiencies and identify new business and product opportunities, with his skill set and experience being a further catalyst for growth and innovation,” Feuerherdt says.
“Transit Systems continues to showcase global best-practice, delivering sustainable, safe and reliable transport solutions across Australia – continually setting new benchmarks for the industry and helping government partners meet their zero emission goals.”
Based in Brisbane, McGee says he is passionate about leading and developing people, and encouraging best-practice solutions to drive sustainability, innovation and growth.
“How we connect people and places is a vital service for our communities,” McGee says.
“Transit Systems is proudly Australian and has an incredible track record – and I look forward to continuing to raise that benchmark.
“There is a tremendous opportunity for growth in the sector and I am thrilled to be on the team – one that is recognised globally as a leader in providing innovative mobility solutions.
“Given the state of play with sustainability commitments in public transit, it’s an especially exciting time to join Transit Systems, making a real difference to help government partners deliver on zero emission transport targets.”
McGee will oversee Australia’s largest electric bus fleet in his role as CEO of Transit Systems, along with the country’s first two hydrogen buses that are soon to be deployed into service.
“I am excited to be taking on the responsibilities that will continue to reinforce Transit Systems’ position as a global leader in sustainable mobility,” he says.
