It’s not often a bus building apprentice meets the Governor-General, but Brad Schulz did just that

Volgren employee Brad Schulz has been recognised for his outstanding work as an apprentice with a five-day leadership and development program in Canberra.
Brad was invited to take part in the program with 19 other apprentices and trainees from around Australia and on the first day met Governor-General Quentin Bryce, AC, who hosted an afternoon tea at Government House.
“It was a great honour to visit Government House and meet the Governor General,” Schulz says.
The program was hosted by Group Training Australia last month, and focused on ‘Life by Design’ rather than ‘Life by Default’. Schulz was selected after a comprehensive interview process.
“The program was very informative and has given me some extra skills which I am using in my career here at Volgren,” he says.
Schulz, 26, joined Volgren as an apprentice body maker at the Melbourne factory four years ago and has since been promoted to team leader in the panel section.
“My apprenticeship was through LINK Employment and Training, and my experience with them was awesome,” Schulz says.
“They are a not-for-profit and they ensured I got work at Volgren. I would recommend LINK to anyone considering an apprenticeship.”
Volgren is Australia’s leading bus body builder and employs apprentices in a range of trades at its plants in Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
