South East Queensland is set for another public transport boost with two new bus stations near Brisbane
June 18, 2012
Redlands
will get two new bus stations at Redland Bay and Victoria Point, according to a Translink
announcement today.
Public Transport Assistant Minister Steve Minnikin says the bus stations will provide seamless integration for customers travelling between the mainland and Moreton Bay islands.
“The upgrade from the current bus stop to a bus station at Victoria Point, as part of Redland City Council’s master plan for the area, will provide residents, commuters, barge staff and tourists with improved facilities, particularly for people with mobility impairments,” Minnikin says.
Key features of the Victoria Point station include:
- a new architecturally-designed, fully-sheltered bus station with capacity for two buses
- a waiting area for bus and barge passengers
- improved pedestrian access, lighting and security cameras with 24-hour video recording
- a new ticket office for barge and ferry operators and passengers
- a bus layover bay and bus driver facilities
- landscaping to integrate the station with the local environment
Construction at Victoria Point is due to start in mid-2013.
Redlands MP Peter Dowling says the Redland Bay Marina bus is already underway.
“A lot of hard work has gone into producing a concept that reflects the desires of the Southern Moreton Bay Island communities,” Dowling says.
“We have incorporated community feedback from the local council into the design, which was collected during consultation for the Southern Moreton Bay Island Integrated Local Transport Plan in 2010-11.”
“Due to the station’s unique coastal environment it was essential that the design of the station and the materials to be used integrate with the natural beauty of the area and maintain views.”
TransLink’s concept design for the improved Redland Bay Marina station includes:
- an architecturally designed, fully sheltered bus station with capacity for three buses
- a fully enclosed, weather-proof waiting area
- improved lighting and security cameras with 24-hour video recording
- a pedestrian crossing for safe access from the marina car park
- a passenger pick-up and drop-off area
- passenger information for both bus and ferry services
- facilities for passengers to buy bus tickets and top up/buy go cards
- new ferry ticket office
- bicycle racks
- new public toilets
- a kiosk
for passengers interchanging between services - landscaping using drought-tolerant plants
- bus layover bays and bus driver facilities on Banana Street
The concept plans are available at translink.com.au/project and information sessions will be held in Victoria Point on July 19 and 21.
