QBIC will head to far north Queensland in September to explain the Bligh Government’s contract reform process

Bus and coach operators in far north Queensland get their chance to find out more about the state’s contract reform process in early September.
Queensland Bus Industry Council Executive Director David Tape will visit Mareeba on September 3 to discuss the process with operators and take feedback.
“Our Industry is facing the biggest challenge since the introduction of contracted passenger services in Queensland and we must be prepared,” Tape says.
He says the Bligh Government will be engaging with QBIC in coming months as part of the Bus Contract Reform Project.
“This ‘next generation’ process will encompass all Government contracts relating to passenger services, including school transport,” says Tape.
“The door is open for industry to finally negotiate contracts that are transparent, sustainable and provide a genuine spend of the public purse.”
He says the process should result in a ‘win-win’ for all parties.
“It’s an opportunity that we cannot afford to miss,” Tape says.
Tape says the Mareeba meeting is not sector or member specific, with the broader bus community who may not hold QBIC membership welcome to attend.
