A new double-deck city bus from MAN has been officially unveiled in Sydney
Penske Commercial Vehicles has officially launched the all-new MAN A95 double-deck city bus at the Australian Bus + Coach Show which opened today at the Sydney Showground.
Designated A95 ND 323F, this is the latest addition to the MAN city bus chassis range. It is a three-axle, low-floor city bus with a Euro 5 engine, featuring either a single or double-deck design.
MAN’s lightweight floor assembly chassis (full wheelbase), coupled with the latest Gemilang Coachworks aluminium composite structure and double-deck body design, allows the A95 to remain within the stringent 20.5-tonne GVM limits set in New South Wales, while carrying up to 100 passengers.
MAN and Gemilang Coachworks have been successful in delivering a double-deck bus for operators in Australia, meeting current mass limits and not requiring NHVR PBS or other arrangements for registration and operation. Currently MAN is the only European OEM capable of providing such a double-deck solution.
The A95 chassis is based upon MAN’s existing urban bus chassis range, and features a MAN D20 horizontally mounted, turbocharged and intercooled inline six-cylinder engine that delivers 320hp (235kW) with 1,200 ft-lb (1,600Nm) of torque.
The engine uses the latest emission technology and MAN’s own maintenance-free PM-Kat exhaust treatment system to achieve a Euro 5 exhaust emission rating without the use of AdBlue.
The low levels of noise and vibration, along with low exhaust emissions, benefit the environment and passengers.
The MAN A95 offers a ZF EcoLife six-speed automatic transmission with integrated hydraulic retarder, all of which maximise operating economy and service life. An electronic braking system (EBS) with ABS and ASR, as well as the electronic stability program (ESP) combined with stabilisers on all axles, ensure unrivalled safety and passenger comfort.
The overall dimensions of the double-deck are 12 metres in length, 4.26 metres high and 2.5 metres wide, and despite its substantial size the A95 has a turning circle of just 22 metres, making the bus exceptionally manoeuvrable.
MAN Truck and Bus is also displaying the RR4 CO 26.480 EEV at the show. The MAN D26 upright turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine delivers 480hp (350 kW) at 1,400 ft-lb (1,900Nm) of torque.
Through their common rail and emission technology, MAN diesel engines combine high efficiency and power output while maintaining exceptional fuel economy. These features allow oil drain intervals to be extended to 80,000km. As with all of MAN’s Euro 5 and EEV engine variants, emission standards are met without the need for AdBlue.
The RR4 is a three-axle touring coach chassis that features independent front suspension, adaptive cruise control, lane guard, and electronic stability program in addition to the standard EBS and ABS. As such, the RR4 is one of the safest touring coach chassis platforms available in the Australian market.
