Australian bus and coach operators are facing more regulatory demands than ever before – especially around fatigue management and record-keeping. With this need to record-keep comes the development of technology that can make meeting requirements less of a headache for compliance managers and other operations managers.
That’s where having a purpose built digital compliance system like Logmaster benefits the operators. The New South Wales based software company offers a National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR)-accredited Electronic Work Diary and compliance management system for Australia’s heavy vehicle and transport industry.
Its NHVR accredited EWD has been a gamechanger for many in the national bus and coach industry.
ComfortDelGro (CDC) Australia is one of many national operators benefiting from Logmaster’s real-time compliance management system.
“It’s been a true timesaver in this hectic industry,” ComfortDelGro Corporation (CDC) Australia HSEQ advisor Leon Hayward says.
“Logmaster has been, and remains, an extremely useful tool for ensuring a ‘live’ compliance to NHVR fatigue regulations as it sends an alert as soon as the system has detected a breach, allowing for management to put into place control measures.
“It also has a functionality that allows for trip planning that can raise potential breaches before the trip is scheduled or started. The ability to pull up records at any time by computer has also made auditing of fatigue so much quicker and easier.”
CDC driver John Muir OAM has used Logmaster for almost a year and says it brings fatigue management into the modern era.
“As my core information is contained in the application, when I start work, all I have to do is answer a few questions and provide what vehicle I am driving and the start kilometres, Logmaster then records start time and location automatically,” he says.
“It then provides a display of total time worked, current time worked and what size break is due next. Unlike a manual work diary, it is not constrained by having to start and finish in the quarter hour, the break starts as soon as you put Logmaster into rest.”
Muir says these capabilities take away all the anxiety involved in incorrectly filling out the manual work diary and being pulled over by NHVR inspectors for a work diary check.
“I haven’t been pulled over by NHVR inspectors as yet, but speaking to my brother-in-law who has, all they do with Logmaster is review the compliance tab and they can immediately tell there are no breaches,” he says.

“There’s no more waiting around while they go back through the work diary pages.
“It’s highly recommended that all drivers required to use a work diary be given access to Logmaster.”
CDC Australia operations team leader Thomas Cliff says: “Logmaster is simple, but powerful – real-time monitoring, breach alerts and simplified archiving make it useful for everyone from drivers to back-office teams.”
Yet CDC Australia isn’t the only operation to benefit from the widespread use of Logmaster. Over in Victoria, Busfleet Australia faced the usual headaches involved with paper work diaries until it rolled out Logmaster.
“Like many bus and coach companies, we faced challenges with the routine of collecting, reviewing and storing paper copies of the national work diary,” Busfleet Australia general manager Ben ‘Benchy’ Field says.
“Since implementing Logmaster, we’ve been able to address these issues by receiving real-time reports while our crew is on the road.”
Like a growing number of operators around the nation, Busfleet Australia is adamant the system is critical to making daily bus and coach operations easier.
“The platform has helped ensure our team stays compliant with regulations and provided us with a central location to securely store all records, accessible from anywhere,” Benchy says.
“The Logmaster team has been incredibly supportive throughout the entire process – from helping us explore our options to seamlessly rolling out the program with our crew and offering ongoing support as needed.”
