No major
irregularities have been found
during a review of
Park Ridge Transit’s maintenance records after a fire consumed one of the company’s Volvo B12 buses this week.
Bus Queensland’s Park Ridge Transit, operating
at Logan,
pulled nine Volvo B12 buses off the road Tuesday after a bus caught fire on Crest Road.
The driver and one passenger were on board the 512 service from Park Ridge to Browns Plains when it caught fire.
The passenger and driver escaped the flames, which
were reportedly more than three metres high and took about 30 minutes for fire crews to control.
Shortly after the incident Transport Minister Scott Emerson called for
a review of all maintenance records from Park Ridge Transit’s fleet of B12 buses.
“While I am unaware of any systemic issues with this model of bus, we need to ensure Park RidgeTransit delivers a safe service as part of its contract with the State Government,” Emerson says.
But
a spokesperson for Emerson’s office
today says the maintenance records
didn’t show
any major anomalies.
She says investigation into the bus fire’s cause
continues.
“We have to wait for the fire department to finish their investigations to determine what the cause of the fire was,” she says.
“The buses are back on the road, there has been no recall or anything like that.”
Meanwhile, the Transport Workers Union have demanded a recall of the Volvo buses following the bus fire.
Bus Queensland General Manager Adam Pulitano declined to comment.
