Local bus deliveries surge in extraordinary November

The bus and coach market has surged after its 157 deliveries in October, with a stellar November seeing the industry finish 2024 in red-hot form

Many industries may be starting to slow down heading into the final weeks of the year, but the Australasian bus and coach sector isn’t one of them. The deliveries data for November has seen the industry record an amazing 183 deliveries in one of the best months of 2024 to date.

Rising from 157 deliveries in October, the major market players all had stellar months to lead the way.

In the chassis sector, Volvo was simply superior once again with 59 deliveries recorded for November. In a clear second was Yutong, who had 35 deliveries to sit well clear of the third placed Scania with 20. From there, Custom Denning (13) led a tight jostle for fourth and fifth place, with the likes of MAN (12), BCI (11), King Long (11) and BLK (10) all very close. I-Bus also sat right with the group with nine deliveries in November, while Challenger (two) and BYD (one) wrapped up the market for November.

There should be no surprise that the bodybuilder market was dominated by Volgren yet again, leading the way with 55 deliveries for November. Yutong’s strong November of 35 deliveries saw it claim second place, while Custom Denning finished the podium with 21 deliveries for the month. A gap opened after, with five brands competing for the next best positions. In the battle, BCI and Global Bus Ventures (12 deliveries apiece), King Long (11), BLK (10) and I-Bus (nine) all had strong months to sit close. Irizar had the five deliveries, while the final 13 deliveries were shared between seven brands.

The seating market saw its giant have a milestone month as McConnell romped to 87 deliveries in a mammoth November. It recorded exactly three times more deliveries than the next best in market in Yutong with the 29 deliveries. Sege wasn’t too far behind on the 25 deliveries for November, while StyleRide continued to rise in the back half of 2024 with 18 deliveries for the month. APM recorded the nine units, while Fainsa and King Long couldn’t be split on seven apiece and Marcopolo was listed with the single delivery.

The tightest market for November was in the air-conditioning game, which was claimed by constant leader Thermo King and its 49 units delivered for the month. Cling-Yutong rose to second in November with 35 deliveries, while Coachair continued to excel with 30 units for the month. Spheros rose to be a clear fourth with the 24 deliveries, while King Long (11), MCC (11) and Valeo (10) could all barely be split. Following this main pack was Songz with the six units, while Hispacold (five) kept ahead of Konvekta and Denso who had the solitary delivery each.

In the state-based battle, Queensland emerged as clear winners with a massive November that saw it bring in 64 deliveries. It nearly doubled its competitor states, with New South Wales narrowly claiming second place with 35 units ahead of Western Australia (33) and Victoria (32). All states and territories had deliveries in an even month, with South Australia having the 10 and ACT recording five. To finish the nationwide market, the Northern Territory had the three deliveries and Tasmania had one.
