This year’s BusNSW conference heads to Leura in the Blue Mountains, featuring a DDG, debate aplenty – and ‘Bollywood’
February 14, 2012
After pulling off a stunning Australian Bus and Coach show at Rosehill last October, BusNSW heads to the Blue Mountains west of Sydney this April for its annual Management Seminar to pick up and thrash out topics developed in 2011.
BusNSW Executive Director Darryl Mellish says the seminar’s theme – Growth to Benefit All – reflects how an environment facilitating patronage growth can benefit government, operators, suppliers and the community.
And representing government at this year’s seminar is Transport for NSW Transport Services Deputy Director General Fergus Gammie who has agreed to speak on bus contracts and the progress on Sydney’s electronic ticketing system.
“We are pleased that the Deputy Director General has agreed to address members following the formation of the Integrated Transport Authority, and at this critical time in the metropolitan contract cycle,” Mellish says.
More a conference than a seminar, although labeled as such, the two-day event launches on Friday April 20 with a golf day at the Fairmont Resort venue, a Friday evening welcoming party, followed by an intense day of conference-style discussion and presentations at the resort on Saturday April 21.
“This seminar provides members with an ideal opportunity to gain a better understanding of reforms, and the exciting future prospects for the bus and coach industry,” Mellish says.
“I will present an industry report titled ‘The World We Live In’ which will look at the wide ranging challenges and opportunities for bus and coach operators.”
Other topics to be presented at the Fairmont Resort, Leura, include:
§ Aligning Employment Conditions with Contracts and Operations
§ Marketing and Passenger Relations
§ Management Skills for Bus and Coach Operators
The seminar will wrap with a debate on vehicle age.
“We are planning to finish the seminar with the ‘Great Debate’ which will involve operators and suppliers arguing for and against current average age, maximum age and vehicle inspection requirements,” says Mellish.
The Saturday night seminar dinner will have a Bollywood theme, providing delegates with a chance to relax and network.
There will also be a tour for accompanying person’s on Saturday April 21, which will visit local attractions, stopping for lunch at one of the Blue Mountain’s best restaurants.
