Bus Stop Sales, the Australian distributor for King Long buses, has strengthened its partnership with Cummins by integrating the Euro 6 Cummins X11 engines into its 12 and 13-metre models.
The X11 engine is a major upgrade from the previous ISL series, offering better performance and emissions control. It uses advanced technology like Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), eliminating the need for costly retrofits. Critically, it still doesn’t need Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) or a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), all designed to benefit the total cost of ownership.

Bus Stop Sales director Pete White says Cummins was chosen for more than meeting emissions standards and that factors like innovation, after-sales support, and fuel economy played a crucial role.
“Cummins’ global reputation and ability to work across multiple brands made them the perfect partner,” White says.
White dismisses concerns about Chinese manufacturing, which is the source of the X11, stating that the X11 engines are cutting-edge and designed to meet global Euro 6 standards.
The X11 engine offers a 10 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency, higher torque and horsepower with Bus Stop Sales opting for an X11 400hp over a 338hp.
White says at the 400hp rating, operators have 300-400Nm more torque than a 340/360hp L9. This significantly contributes to low engine rpm, good fuel consumption and solid, relaxed performance.
White acknowledges the input of his commercial management team, who he says played a vital role in the final engine selection. This collaborative approach ensured all options were thoroughly evaluated, resulting in a “win-win outcome” for fleet operators.
This ensures more robust performance while maintaining fuel economy with reduced maintenance another benefit. White estimates 20 per cent less maintenance than the previous engine. He hints at future developments, including new 12-metre models, aiming to provide the best value in the market.
“We’re committed to delivering high-performance products that stand out,” White says.
Bus Stop general manager of southern states Guy Pex says: “Operator feedback has been outstanding, with no issue raised and one customer who is traditionally a European buyer ordering two coaches straight away.”
Bus Stop says the partnership sets a new standard in the Australian bus industry, offering fleet operators a balance of environmental responsibility and powerful performance with the Euro 6 Cummins X11 engine.
