Irizar to provide electric buses to Palma EMT

Irizar’s global body will provide unique electric buses to the Mallorca city

Manufacturer Irizar e-mobility says it will provide the Palma EMT in Spain 12 electric zero-emissions buses.

Irizar will deliver the units in early 2023 and aims for the buses to contribute to the energy transition and acceleration of the area’s decarbonisation process at the capital of Mallorca.

A new vehicle of these buses is that they will feature solar panels on top that will be used to power the auxiliary systems on board.

Mayor of Palma Jose Hila visited the Irizar e-mobility facilities this week to see where the buses would be manufactured and discuss technical specifications of the buses that will soon take to Palma streets.

“We’re working on having a more sustainable city and public transport is fundamental to achieving that. The EMT needs to have buses that use clean energy and that’s what we’re doing,” Hila says.

The Irizar IE tram model vehicles will be 12 metres long and have three doors alongside 22 seats and wheelchair area.

Taking up to 70 passengers, the 430 kWh Irizar batteries can be charged using an inverted pantograph or a Combo 2 charging outlet.

Irizar e-mobility commercial director for Spain and Portugal Txema Otero says: “This order is strategic for us because of the visibility Palma has in the tourism market.”

“We’re extremely proud to contribute to improving the quality of life for its residents.”
