Numurkah bus project given funding boost

The local community grant will provide a new bus for aged care residents in need

A regional Australian group has been given a funding injection to help them buy a bus that will be put to use for local citizens.

The Numurkah Rotary Club has received $10,000 to be put towards buying a bus that will transport residents of aged care facilities around town.

Residents of Pioneer Lodge and Karinya Nursing Home will use the 11-seater all-abilities community bus courtesy of the grant issued by Moira Shire.

The local Cobram Football Club and St James Golf Club also received grants in this latest move, with the grant being part of Moira Shire’s Community Strengthening Grants Program totalling $26,149.

Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica says these grants help start community projects and support organisations that provide a wide range of local services and facilities.

“These grants help facilitate projects which enrich the whole community and can assist in the development of services, management of facilities, co-ordination of events and promotion of tourism, environmental sustainability and health in the community,” Mustica says.

“This latest round of grants will help community groups from St James, Yarrawonga, Numurkah and Cobram.

“Congratulations to those community groups.”
