VOLVO-IRIZAR TARGET SMALLER SCHOOL BUS MARKET

BREAKING: Bringing Euro flair to the Australian small-to-medium sized school bus segment could give Volvo an edge via the launch of its new ‘short’ Euro 6 B8R chassis matched to Irizar i6 3700 body, the company announced today.

Available for immediate delivery in collaboration with Irizar, the B8R Euro 6 school bus in ‘medium’ 10.8-metre size featuring a modern i6 3700 body will be, “…Volvo’s first model to exist within the medium and smaller size bus market, and will add a European advantage to the mix of existing manufacturers within this space,” the company explains.

“We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new Volvo B8R Short Euro 6 chassis school bus with Irizar,” said Mitch Peden, general manager Volvo Bus Australia.

“For decades, Volvo Bus and Irizar have remained close business partners and we look forward to seeing our new school bus model on the roads ensuring safe, reliable and environmentally friendly transport for school students across the country,” he explained.

“It has been decades since Volvo Bus has offered a product of this smaller scale, and the new B8R is part of VBA’s mission to continue to meet the ever-changing needs within the industry.”

MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY

The new Volvo B8R combines the reliability and efficiency of Volvo’s standard B8R European driveline and offers Volvo’s most fuel-efficient D8K Euro 6 engine with the legendary ZF transmission as a standard, it confirms.

It also comes with a range of Volvo contracts and additional service offering options to ensure maximum efficiency, uptime and support for customers across Australia, Volvo explains.

The new Volvo B8R also incorporates Volvo’s Driver Support System (DSS), which offers a range of capabilities including forward collision warning with emergency braking; adaptive cruise control; lane keeping support; and driver alert support to collectively deliver enhanced safety and comfort.

Irizar Australia managing director Daniel Castro, stated: “This Volvo and Irizar collaboration combines our strengths.

“Both brands have unique technological advancements and a strong focus on service, with operators having access to Volvo’s largest dealership network in the country and the Irizar mobile workshops available across WA, Victoria, Queensland and NSW.

“The integration of services are combined for chassis, body and air-conditioning and customers have access to a one-stop-shop experience,” he explained.

The modern and classic design of the Irizar i6 body offers space configurable with 35-45 seating capacities, and a suite of premium interior features, across its 10.8 metres.
