TRANSDEV STAFF IN ‘VIRTUAL 24-DAY CHALLENGE’ FOR CHARITY

VERY SPECIAL KIDS – a charity helping approximately 900 families across Victoria who have a child with a life-threatening condition - will have its work supported thanks to a new community partnership with Transdev Melbourne, it’s been announced recently.

The partnership aims to support the important work of Very Special Kids by raising awareness and funds among Transdev Melbourne’s staff and customers, and coincides with the organisation’s biggest annual fundraiser: the 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge, which has been impacted by Covid-19 restrictions.

Free services offered via Very Special Kids include: counselling, advocacy, sibling programmes, bereavement support and specialist care at the charity’s hospice.

Transdev Melbourne’s support for Very Special Kids will include raising awareness and fundraising through Transdev bus advertising, digital billboards and ongoing coverage on Transdev’s social media channels and via staff events, the company explains. Its team members will also provide hands-on support through volunteering, it adds.

This new partnership kicked off with Transdev Melbourne challenging staff to “get moving” in the virtual 24-day Challenge, where participants are encouraged to be active for 30 minutes every day for 24 days in May, all the while raising funds for children with life-threatening conditions in need of 24-hour care, it states.

TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES

Loretta Lynch, recently appointed managing director of Transdev Melbourne, described the care and compassion of the Very Special Kids team as inspiring.

“The staff and volunteers at Very Special Kids provide incredible support to children and families that are living through traumatic experiences,” said Lynch.

“We strongly believe in giving back to the communities in which we operate.

“We hope that our support will raise awareness and funds which will allow Very Special Kids to continue providing much needed hope and comfort for Victorian families who have a child with a life-threatening condition.”

Michael Wasley, chief executive officer of Very Special Kids, said: “Very Special Kids is excited to have been offered this opportunity to partner with Transdev. As a small charity, which does such important work, we would love for all Victorians to know what we do, and this opportunity will help us with that.”
