GEMILANG BUS-BODY STAFF EXPANSION DRIVE CONTINUES

SPONSORED CONTENT: Buoyed namely by major bus contracts in both Sydney and Melbourne recently, bus body builder Gemilang is seeking to expand its staff numbers to accommodate the increasing demand, it states.

The now newly “100 per cent” Australian-owned and operated company headquartered in Ballarat, Victoria, is hiring a number of positions, including spray painter, mobile service technician and panel beater/body builder to be based at its workshop there.

With 2019 marking the company’s 10 anniversary in Australia, the maker of aluminium city buses for the Australian and New Zealand markets also maintains fleets within the metro areas of major cities and says it offers flexible workplace arrangements.

KEY AGREEMENTS

It’s an exciting time for Gemilang in Australia, in particular, with certain metro city orders helping drive the company’s localised expansion plans, it says.

With a recent 50 per cent buyout by Australian shareholders of the remaining half of Gemilang Asia Pacific Ltd shares, Gemilang says it is, “…the only bus builder with a significant footprint of electric buses on Australian roads, having delivered over 20 to the market since 2016.”

As of 27 June, 2019, it also entered into a, “…long-term distribution agreement with Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) for the supply of the Eco Range aluminium bus bodies to Australia and New Zealand.”

A spokesperson for Gemilang, speaking of its track record and future business, said: “…we delivered six electric buses to Carbridge for Sydney Airport; 38 MAN A95 buses for the B-Line project in 2017; 28 Scania K310 Euro 5 buses for Transit Systems in 2018; and the four BYD electric buses for Transit Systems in June, 2019.”

“We have been working to bring assembly back to Australia since 2016 and are focusing on localising our build as much as possible, short term.

“Long term, we hope to expand our operations and workforce with OzPress Industries in Ballarat to manufacture buses for all states and territories, as well as building electric buses for the Australian market.

Gemilang Australia is also part of an AUD$16 million order for 100 Scania buses touted as “the single biggest order of replacement buses in Victoria for more than 25 years”.
