TRANSIT SYSTEMS ADDRESSES SYDNEY REGION 6 BUS CRITICISM

WORSE ON-TIME RUNNING results from Transit Systems Region 6 Inner West Sydney bus services are to be addressed in the “next targeted phase of improvement”, the operator reports.

The response comes after recent data released from Transport for NSW showed a decline in bus punctuality since Transit Systems won the Region 6 contract in July last year.

As reported in The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, “The Berejiklian government repeatedly cited poor performance of buses run by the State Transit Authority (STA) in “region six” in the inner west as justification for privatising services there. But data from NSW’s transport agency shows the private operator, Transit Systems, has failed to beat the key performance measure of 95 per cent of buses running on time every month since it took over the contract in July last year.”

NEXT PHASE

A Transit Systems a spokesperson said: “Since commencing operations in Region 6, Transit Systems has been dedicated to improving the reliability of services for our customers. We’re pleased to have more services on popular routes, as well as 28 new buses on the road, better servicing the Region 6 community.”

“The number of cancelled trips has decreased significantly since 1 July, 2018, and is now at its lowest rate with just 0.30 per cent of scheduled trips cancelled in April.

“We are seeing a decrease in customer complaints and we are proud to provide a service that is consistently more reliable for commuters,” it stated.

“Our next targeted phase of improvement focuses on on-time running and, alongside Transport for NSW, we have been reviewing service improvement options to ensure the network reflects current operating conditions and are safely, and reliably achievable.”

“To ensure the services within the catchment are genuinely improved, we have been analysing our performance data closely and aim to deliver significant on time running improvements over the coming months.

“Given the scale of the region, it is naturally a time-consuming and complex task, so we appreciate the community’s patience while we have evaluated the network, and we look forward to enhancing the commuter’s experience when we implement the service improvements.”

CAUSE AND EFFECT

The public transport operator also highlighted that factors outside of Transit Systems’ control can impact the reliability of services such as traffic accidents, special events, wet weather conditions and road works.

Transit Systems operates its region 6 buses along some of the busiest corridors in the Sydney Metropolitan area, it states, including Parramatta Road, Victoria Road, King Street, Anzac Parade and New Canterbury Road.
