BUSNSW LAUNCHES STATE ELECTION CAMPAIGN

THE NSW PEAK BODY for the private bus and coach industry, BusNSW, has formally launched its campaign ahead of the March 23 State Election with the release of its document Moving People NSW – Measures to Shape our Communities.

BusNSW executive director Matt Threlkeld said the document highlights 20 measures that BusNSW believes could have huge flow-on effects in terms of reducing congestion and creating more desirable places to live and work.

“Buses play a vital role in delivering public transport in NSW and each year carry around 332 million passengers, including almost 580,000 students travelling to and from school each day,” Threlkeld said.

“Issues of population growth, congestion and mobility have become real election issues in the public’s mind and there is an opportunity for candidates to support our solutions,” he said.

“While the bus and coach industry recognise recent improvements to public transport in NSW, we believe that more needs to be done to combat congestion and accommodate a growing population and economy in NSW,” Threlkeld said.

INVERT, UPSKILL, EMPLOY

BusNSW president John King said the implementation of the measures outlined in the BusNSW Election Brochure will assist the industry to achieve its full potential and encourage bus and coach operators and industry suppliers across NSW, to invest, upskill and employ.

“Our proposed strategies provide a platform for further and substantial improvements to public transport over the next term of government in NSW,” King said.
