ALLEGED STOLEN BUS PARTS ACTIVITY INVESTIGATED BY POLICE

AS CONFIRMED BY VICTORIA POLICE, there is an investigation under way following “reports of a series of thefts and deceptions at a transport company in Melbourne”, with Melbourne bus company Transdev conceding it’s had to, “terminate a staff member recently who seriously breached our code of conduct,” ABC magazine can verify.

The statements by both entities – which they outlined would be ‘inappropriate at this time to discuss further’ – comes following a report by The Age newspaper last Friday that,  “police are investigating whether a manager at a major bus company was for five years secretly selling spare bus parts for a profit.”

According to The Age report, a workshop manager at the Keysborough and Heatherton depots of Transdev was sacked on Thursday last week, “after the international corporation detected potential theft and referred the man to police.”

“Under the scheme, the manager allegedly ordered surplus spare bus parts for the company and privately sold them on, pocketing the cash,” the report stated.

“Police are investigating incidents that allegedly took place at locations across Melbourne between 2013 and 2018. It is understood that another two employees are being investigated by Transdev in relation to the alleged scheme, including one person who has been stood down,” the newspaper reported.

It continued that: “In a bulletin sent to staff last week, Transdev employees were instructed to avoid contact with the manager and refuse him access to any of the depots. They were told to contact their manager if he attempts to access any of the sites.”

THEFT AND ‘DECEPTIONS’

When ABC magazine contacted VicPol, a spokesperson in its Media Unit confirmed the report stating: “[Victoria] Police are investigating reports of a series of thefts and deceptions at a transport company in Melbourne. The incidents allegedly took place at various locations around Melbourne, between 2013 and 2018, and were reported to police last Wednesday (12 September). As the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to provide any further comment at this stage.”

Nikki Allder, acting managing director of Transdev Melbourne stated: “Transdev is committed to delivering the best possible service for our customers and the community.”

“We are exceptionally disappointed that we have had to terminate a staff member recently who seriously breached our code of conduct.

“We have referred this matter to Victoria Police.”

“We can confirm that we acted swiftly and decisively to terminate one of our employees on 13 September, 2018, consistent with our disciplinary policy regarding serious breaches of our code of conduct.

“As this matter is now under police investigation, it is not appropriate for us to comment further at this point,” she said.
