Auckland bus network launch

Entirely new bus routes and timetables are about to be launched in West Auckland

Brand new double-deckers will also be rolled out between New Lynn and the CBD in August.

Large parts of West Auckland have had poor levels of service, particularly around the Massey and Hobsonville area, according to Auckland Transport metro network development manager Anthony Cross.

The new network is about making bus travel better for Aucklanders, better integration with trains and introducing reliable, frequent, seven-day services on routes that are simpler for people to understand,” he says.

“It’s a major step forward to creating a connected transport system in which local, frequent and rapid services all work together.

“Overall, we’re trying to address not only peak demand, but also to make public transport more useful for more people all day, every day of the week.

“We’re aware that as the west grows, and more people and businesses spread further, we will need to add services and new routes.”

During consultation in 2014, Auckland Transport received more than 1,200 submissions and made changes to 11 of the 24 proposals as a result.
