NSW conference nears

The two–day 2017 BusNSW Member Conference kicks off on April 20 at the Crowne Plaza in Terrigal in regional New South Wales

BusNSW executive director Darryl Mellish says he is expecting over 200 delegates to attend the conference which will focus on a theme of “Staying Ahead of the Game” and the need for the industry to achieve progress despite potential  disruption from emerging technology and the rise of the sharing economy.

“The conference provides operators, government representatives and industry suppliers the opportunity to expand their knowledge on current issues and industry reforms in the pipeline,” he says.

The conference will commence with a Bus Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) audit and incident management refresher workshop on day one.

“This workshop is a must for accredited operators involved with regular passenger services and/or long distance, tourist and charter services,” Mellish says.

Day two of the conference program will feature a NSW Government address from Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance, and the presentation of a key BusNSW industry report.

“Minister Constance has performed very well and we are pleased he maintained the Transport and Infrastructure portfolio following the recent cabinet reshuffle,” Mellish says.

“We are also pleased that Transport for NSW Service Delivery & Performance executive director John Karaboulis has agreed to speak on a range of matters including contract settings.”

Other topics to be presented during the conference will include Roads and Maritime Services (RMS)   compliance and an explanation of the complex regulatory issues facing the bus and coach industry.

There will be an open discussion on point to point transport, and what the rise in popularity of such services might mean for the NSW Bus Industry.

A broader discussion on the topic of where vehicle and information technology is headed should also bring about some interesting debate.

The Friday evening conference dinner will take place in the Grand Ballroom, with a black & white dress-theme will provide delegates with an ideal opportunity to relax and network.
