Bus museum re-opening

The well-established Sydney Bus Museum will reopen in early August

The Sydney Bus Museum is holding a ‘Grand Opening’ on August 7 to celebrate its new schedule, which will see the museum open every second Sunday.

The museum, which is located in the Old Tramshed in Leichhardt, is host to dozens of classic buses, ranging from AEC and Leyland buses of the early 20th century up to 1980s Mercedes-Benz city buses.

The first exhibition the museum will have on display upon its reopening is ‘Sydney Buses during WWII’, produced by museum volunteers and funded by the NSW government.

The museum is also offering rides across ANZAC Bridge into the CBD and back on one of the museum’s many vintage double-decker buses.

Andrew Constance, NSW minister for transport, will be present to officially open the museum on the day.

Since 1986, the museum has grown into an organisation of over 250 members who volunteer to keep some of NSW’s transport heritage alive.

The museum has the largest collection of double-decker buses in Australia, at well over a dozen, as part of a collection that even includes a late-‘50s FC Holden taxi cab.

From 2017, the museum will be open twice a week.
