Plan for Bendigo

Eaglehawk Station is set to be upgraded with better bus connections under a draft master plan

The Draft Eaglehawk Station Precinct Master Plan in Bendigo has been released for community feedback and includes outlines for better bus connections.

Victoria Member for Bendigo East and Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan joined Bendigo City Council to unveil the draft Master Plan recently, which sets out a blueprint for future development of the station in Bendigo’s growing north-west.

The Master Plan outlines design, land use and infrastructure improvements for the precinct, and improved access between the station and surrounding areas with more car parking and better bus, walking, cycling connections.

“We’re boosting services and improving Eaglehawk station in the short term, while we work with Council and the community on a long-term vision for the station and surrounding areas,” says Allan.

“Bendigo is growing and we are investing for that growth, ordering new trains, upgrading stations, and delivering more services, so its quicker and easier to catch the train and get home.”

The Master Plan has been developed by the City of Greater Bendigo, with the State Government contributing $30,000 as part of the Transport Investing in Regions initiative.

The Master Plan supports the Bendigo Integrated Transport and Land Use Strategy and the Eaglehawk Structure Plan.

The recent Victorian Budget 2016/17 allocates $15.8 million towards improvements to Bendigo and Eaglehawk Stations, and funds four extra off-peak services to Bendigo every week.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards says this is a blueprint for a better Eaglehawk Station which is ready for more services as the community grows.

“It’s part of our long-term plan for better public transport in Bendigo and across regional Victoria, where trains, buses and coaches work together to get people where they need to go,” she says.

The consultation period for the plan finishes at 5pm on July 8.
