The Western Australia Government will invest millions into a new bus route following its success
The Western Australia Government will invest $7 million in a new high-frequency bus route to start later this year.
Route 960 will operate between Mirrabooka Bus Station and Curtin University via Edith Cowan University’s Mount Lawley campus and the new Perth Busport.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder says the new service will build on the success of Transperth’s busiest bus route.
“When Route 950 was introduced in January 2014, it took less than a month for it to become Transperth’s most successful bus route ever – it currently averages about 18,000 boardings a day,” he says.
“By consolidating existing bus routes into one high-frequency service, we’re able to provide even better, more efficient services to Transperth passengers.”
The 960 will replace Routes 885 and 888 and will operate an all-stop service between Mirrabooka and Curtin via Alexander Drive, the new Perth Busport (due to open mid-year) and Victoria Park Transfer Station.
At peak times, the service will run every five minutes between Curtin and ECU, Mount Lawley.
“Route 960 will run along the $1.4 million Fitzgerald Street peak-period bus lane, which is due for completion in mid-2016,” says Nalder.
“It’s yet another integrated transport solution which will make public transport even more efficient for students, commuters and families in Western Australia.”
All of the 20 new buses will be fully accessible, and have Euro 6 environmental certification.
