Upgrade for region

The Victoria Government has committed funding to upgrade public transport services in Bendigo

The Victoria Government is adding more trains services to Bendigo and improving Bendigo Station.

Bendigo Station will undergo a massive upgrade as part of $15.8 million in funding in last week’s Victorian Budget 2016/17.

The works will deliver the Bendigo Station Master plan currently being developed by the City of Greater the Bendigo in partnership with the State Government.

The improvements will make the station easier to get to, with better pedestrian access, parking and traffic management outside the station.

Movement between platforms will also be improved and made more accessible, and the waiting area will be upgraded.

The $15.8 million will also fund improvements at Eaglehawk Station, making it more accessible for people with disabilities.

The Budget also funds four extra off-peak services each day for Bendigo and provides $2 million to investigate further capacity and reliability improvements for the line in the future.

The investment is part of more than a billion dollars the Labor Government invested in better regional public transport through the budget.

This investment includes $280 million for 27 new VLocity carriages, $141 million for critical maintenance and $198 million to rebuild V/Line, so it can deliver the services passengers in Bendigo.

Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan says Bendigo is booming.

“We need more trains, and a better central station and that is what we are delivering.

“Our $15.8 million investment will upgrade Eaglehawk and make Bendigo Station easier to get to, a more comfortable place wait and more accessible for people with disabilities,” she says.

“We’re also adding four extra weekly services, so people spend less time waiting on platforms and more time with family and friends.”
