New interchange for Bendigo

A $900,000 bus interchange upgrade in Bendigo is now complete with passengers using the facilities

The new Mitchell Street bus interchange in Victoria is complete and taking passengers, Minister for Public Transport and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan announced recently.

The new interchange has wider footpaths, better lighting, 80 square metres of undercover space, seating for 45 people and standing room for a further 60.

It is also more accessible, making getting on and off the bus easier for wheelchair and scooter users, and parents with prams, and has big screens showing when buses are timetabled to arrive.

“The new interchange will make waiting for and catching the bus in Bendigo safer, easier and more accessible for the 1.5 million people that catch the bus in Bendigo each year,” says Allan.

“It builds on the bigger, better bus network we delivered in January, which provides more direct routes, better connections, and more services to growth areas.”

The $900,000 upgrade was delivered by Public Transport Victoria, in partnership with the City of Greater Bendigo as part of the $3.8 million upgrade of the wider Mitchell Street streetscape.

“The new bus interchange in Mitchell Street – one of the Bendigo CBD’s busiest streets- is important infrastructure for local bus passengers and a great investment by the State Government in Bendigo,” says Mayor of City of Greater Bendigo Rod Fyffe.
