Ballarat Station upgrade

A huge $25 million upgrade will transform the Ballarat Station precinct in regional Victoria

Ballarat Station and surrounds will undergo a $25 million redevelopment, with four tenderers now short-listed, the Victorian Government announced recently.

Plans include all new public transport infrastructure, a four-star hotel and convention centre and all new public open spaces.

“The Ballarat Station precinct is set to become a thriving centre for commuters and an icon for visitors to this historic city,” Victorian minster for regional development Jaala Pulford says.

“We’re getting on with the job of promoting investment and creating growth in regional Victoria.

“This is an important project and we will continue to engage with the community as the project develops and ensure that people have their say on the final design of the precinct.”

It’s estimated the project will attract significant private sector investment, creating jobs and boosting tourism to the Ballarat region.

“This exciting project will transform Ballarat and create around 140 local jobs, a massive boost to our thriving region,” Victorian Government member for Wendouree Sharon Knight says.

The project will also improve amenity for all users of the precinct, including commuters, pedestrians, visitors and the community.

“This major redevelopment will inject a new lease of life in to our historic station precinct – attracting jobs and investment to Ballarat,” Victorian Government member for Buninyong Geoff Howard says.

The four shortlisted tenderers now have until June 17 to submit more detailed proposals, before the contract of design and construction is awarded.
