Rural Vic's PT win

New train and bus timetables with more services for Bendigo in regional Victoria announced

Expanded bus and train services will provide a massive boost to those who rely on public transport in regional Victoria from January 31, with all new timetables released recently.

Existing bus services will be extended to Bendigo’s growth areas in Strathfieldsaye and Huntly and two new cross town services from Huntly to Kangaroo Flat will roll out.

An additional 7am train to Melbourne and a 4pm train from Melbourne to Bendigo will also give long-distance commuters more choice.

"In just a few weeks, Bendigo will have better train and bus services, making it easier get to get to work or to school, and home again at the end of the day," Victorian minister for public transport Jacinta Allan says .

"The Andrews Labor Government is investing in the public transport services and infrastructure for a growing Bendigo and a growing Victoria."

The first stage of Bendigo Metro Rail also kicks off at the end of the month, with more frequent train services to new housing growth areas in Bendigo’s outer fringes.

Federal member for Bendigo west Maree Edwards says the community asked for better public transport and that is now being delivered.

"This is a significant step forward in the development of public transport services for Bendigo, and we look forward to further improvements through the Regional Network Development Plan – Victoria’s first ever long-term strategy for better regional public transport," she says.

Additional consultation will also take place in early this year around bus services to ensure public transport continues to adapt to meet demand.
