Myki fare increase

Victorian public transport users will face a fare increase in 2016, as announced by PTV

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has announced the annual fare adjustment for 2016 with an average fare rise of 3.2 per cent.

Most fares will increase by 1.5 per cent – in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) plus 2.5 per cent, as announced in the December 2013 Budget update.

The fare adjustment will keep fares in line with CPI and contribute to ongoing investment in a number of major public transport projects including the removal of 50 level crossings, Melbourne Metro Rail Project, and new trains and trams.

PTV will also introduce a number of regional fare improvements, including V/Line off-peak weekend concession fares.

The weekend and public holiday myki cap will remain at $6.00 for all-day travel in Zone 1+2.

The new fares will come into effect from January 1, 2016.
