More services for regional VIC

Improved bus network to meet housing growth near Bendigo starts in January next year

Bendigo’s new bus network will provide more frequent and direct services to more places in the area, the Victorian Government announced this week.

The new services will start on January 31 next year, delivers new and improved services on the outskirts of Bendigo.

A new cross town service will run from the northern to the southern outskirts, and a new route will run to service growth areas north of Bendigo.

“Bendigo’s new bigger, better bus network provides more frequent, reliable, direct services to more places in Bendigo and surrounding areas,” minister for public transport Jacinta Allan says.

“It will complement the integrated transport and land use strategy, and the more frequent train services we will deliver through Bendigo Metro.”

Buses will also be better coordinated with trains, and three routes will run to La Trobe University, including a new fast, direct and frequent service from Bendigo Station.

Buses will run every 30-60 minutes on most routes, but a more frequent service will run between Bendigo and Eaglehawk town centre every 15 minutes on weekdays.

The new network is the product of extensive community consultation, and is designed to meet the needs of current passengers and meet predicted growth in certain areas.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) will monitor the performance of the new network over the coming months, to ensure it is meeting the needs of local passengers.

Consultation will take place in early 2016 around upgrading services in growing area in Bendigo’s east.
