ACT bus service overhaul

Big changes to ACT bus network allow for more convenient services and a rest for drivers

Action Bus will introduce a mandatory 10-minute break for drivers and extensive timetable and service overhaul from next month.

Significant weekday timetable changes came into effect in May, and these will now be revised again, as the result of feedback and passenger data suggesting there were too many service in the early morning and not enough later in the day.

The main focus of weekend services alterations will be service timing changes, as the ACT government introduces new mandatory driver breaks, and to add entirely new weekday services.

Some services with low patronage will simultaneously be reduced, to make way for the breaks.

Planned weekday improvements include a service every 10 minutes in the morning peak for Xpresso services from North Weston and Chisholm, introduction of a direct peak Red Rapid service for Crace and more Red Rapid services in the evening.

There will also be a direct peak Blue Rapid service for Florey and Latham, providing a direct transfer to and from the City, Woden and Tuggeranong during peak times.

Minor directional changes have been made to two dedicated school services, as well as more convenient start times for 56 school runs.

The timetable adjustments and service improvements to the weekday bus network will take effect on October 12, while weekend timetables will change on October 17.

Patronage of the ACT bus network is also up slightly, since paid parking was introduced in the parliamentary triangle in October last year.

ACT bus users should be aware that Google Transit Trip Planner may not show the updated timetable information until a few weeks after the scheduled changes.

Updated weekday timetable booklets will be available from September 29 at bus stations, MyWay recharge agents and ACT public libraries.
