As the importance of health and wellbeing is being recognised more by the bus industry, Volvo has taken this one step further by offering fruit baskets to everybody who attended the Women on Board luncheon in Melbourne recently.

General Manager Volvo Bus Australia Sean Copeland says a commitment is required by the bus industry to help and support those employees dealing with mental health and wellbeing issues.

"This can be said as it may affect their ability within the workplace," he says.

Statistics presented by BusVic Executive Director Chris Lowe at the event show 62 per cent of those who participated in a survey nominated that they did not get help or support from their employer in relation to mental health and wellbeing.

One of the issues which was nominated by those surveyed was healthy eating whilst at home.

Therefore, it was recognised that there needed to be an employer contribution to help rectify the issue.

"In order to contribute to the cause, Volvo declared that they would provide the first delivery of a fruit box to all those who attended," says Copeland.

"Volvo’s intention is to align healthy eating within the workplace as this will ultimately help with mental health and the wellbeing of both the employee and employer."

Volvo will also be receiving fortnightly fruit deliveries in order to support our employees and encourage mental health and wellbeing.

In addition, Volvo also provides its employees with a 24 hour external counselling service in order to assist them with issues impacting their well-being and quality of life.

"Healthy lifestyle promotes a healthy wellbeing," says Copeland.

"When you are an employer, this is specifically important as you always want to achieve the best results out of your employees.

"We believe that by offering healthy options, we will achieve better results out of our employees."
