ACT fares increase

Fares on Action buses will increase by an average of 2.5 per cent from next year

New fares for travel on Action buses will come into effect next year to help absorb the costs of improvements made to the public transport system.

Most MyWay fares for Action buses will increase by an average of 2.5 per cent to reflect the cost of improvements made to public transport, according to a statement released by the ACT Government.

Off peak concession fares will have an additional increase, in line with the ACT Government strategy to progressively align concession entitlements with other jurisdictions, where concession fares are 50 per cent of adult fares.

"The ACT Government is committed to providing a more efficient bus network which meets the travel needs of the community," reads the statement.

"The fare changes reflect continuing improvements to Action’s service, including new bus shelters, upgraded bus stops to comply with disability standards, new buses, as well as dedicated bus lanes and bus priority measures."

The new fares will come into effect from January 3, 2015.
