CILTA award for bus professional

A bus professional has taken out the top award at the CILTA Annual Awards 2014

The passion of a bus and coach industry identity has been recognised with a top award from CILTA   (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport) this month.

Queensland-based Coach Driver/Trainer Assessor John Duffy was awarded Professional of the Year at the CILTA Annual Awards for Excellence 2014 this month.

The award recognises an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to Australian Passenger, Freight and Defence Transport or Logistics.

The event was held on September 6 at Moonee Valley Racecourse, Victoria, in conjunction with the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes Raceday.

About 160 Transport and Logistics Professionals attended the event which was a fabulous networking opportunity and a great way to celebrate excellence in the industry, according to organisers.

Duffy says the award is a win for the bus industry and a great way to recognise the work he has been undertaking.

“It was a big surprise because of the people I was up against,” he says.

“I didn’t think I would get anywhere near it.”

Duffy was given the award on the basis of his extensive experience and his continuing work in driver training and safety.

“That’s a major achievement for the bus and coach industry as far as I’m concerned.”

Duffy says the connections he will be able to make with CILTA because of his win will allow him to push his agenda as a driver safety trainer.

“I’ll have a bigger say in what’s going on as well as opening doors to other projects I want to get into as well,” he says.

“My passion is to restore the pride and professionalism in the industry.”

Other winners included City of Gold Coast, for Passenger Transport, and Transit Australia Group, for safety.
