Bus and coach operators now have access to more parking in Brisbane’s CBD

Queensland bus and coach operators are pleased there is now more parking available in the Brisbane CBD.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads and the Queensland Bus Industry Council (QBIC) have joined forces to improve long-distance bus and coach parking in the Brisbane CBD, according to the QBIC website.

This new site is part of the Parmalat factory in South Brisbane, less than one kilometre from the Brisbane CBD there are four coach parking bays available for booking from this week.

The site will be open 18 hours a day, seven days a week for all accredited Transport and Main Roads (TMR) coach operators.

Executive Director David Tape says they have been working with the State Government for about 12 months to secure the site for long distance coach operators.

"We’ve been pushing for a layover in the CBD for about seven years now."

Tape says they are pushing for more sites throughout the city.

"This particular site and data we collect from this site… will help determine the future needs and the identification of future sites."

The booking site went live late last week, so Tape is still waiting to hear any feedback from operators.

Coach Tour Operator John Duffy, who is based north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast, welcomes the move for more bus and coach parking in the CBD.

"It’s still close enough with to our passengers that we can still work with them," he says.

"It’s great."
