More than 100 Queensland bus drivers have undertaken workshops to become the world’s friendliest bus drivers.

TAFE Queensland South West in Toowoomba and Springfield recently welcomed the drivers to the day-long sessions which are delivered as part of Certificate III in Driver Operations.

The sessions are focused on proactively dealing with difficult passengers and passengers from different cultures and their needs, through role plays and open forum discussions.

TAFE teacher Bonnie Davidson says Bus Queensland is very specific in their training requirements, with the goal being to improve their reputation for customer service to "exceptional".

"The training saw every driver, including depot managers, put through their best service paces and I’m pleased to report that all responded enthusiastically," Davidson says.

Bus Queensland’s Senior Trainer Noel White has been equally pleased with the outcome.

"We always knew we had great, safe bus drivers, but following these sessions, I know we’re on our way to becoming the world’s friendliest."

A further 247 Bus Queensland drivers will receive similar TAFE training in the coming months, owing to the positive feedback and success from these initial workshops.
