Millions of visits a month

New NSW transport website a hit for mobile users as they consider more social media use

Transport for NSW is celebrating success after the launch of a specially designed mobile-friendly timetable website late last year.

Transportnsw.info replaced the out-dated 131500 website in December as the home of trip planning including train, bus and ferry timetables and ticketing information.

Customers can now also access information about trip plans, timetables and service delays.

“The new website is proving a big hit with customers – following its unveiling in mid-December 2013, it has had almost 10 million visits and 1.7 million unique visitors,” says Chief Executive of Sydney Trains Howard Collins.

“Sixty per cent of these views have been on the mobile version of the website, and this shows that we are assisting customers who are using public transport and want information on the go.

“In the lead up to New Year’s Eve there was a 75 per cent increase in visitors to the website compared to the previous year. The old website simply wouldn’t have been able to handle this volume of traffic.”

Collins says the organisation has done a lot of work recently to improve customer service by making better use of technology, and the new website and expanding social media presence is another example of how they are tailoring everything to suit the needs of customers.

Transport for NSW is considering the use of other social networks to determine how they might provide a direct benefit to customers.

Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink are in currently the process of introducing new Twitter handles for specific train lines, giving customers more useful, targeted information about their journey, including updates for intercity and regional journeys.
