Developing the next generation

Young transport professionals are being encouraged to develop their skills with seminar

Young transport professionals are being encouraged to develop their skills and network with a seminar aimed specifically at the younger age group being held later this year.

The seminar is designed for young professionals working in the transport sector, and explores the topic of meeting mobility needs of young people in Australia and New Zealand in the 21st century.

The seminar will be held at the PWC Riverside Centre, Brisbane, from 10am on April 3.

It will include a study tour of key public transport facilities and infrastructure in Brisbane, including the Busway System and tour of the Operational Control Room in the morning.

This will be followed with a session with keynote speaker Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Director-General Neil Scales and a facilitated panel discussion.

UITP Australia New Zealand Executive Director Rob Pearce says the idea is to bring young transport professionals to hear from a key note speaker who is prominent in the industry, as well as bring together some industry players in a facilitated panel.

“Through the combination of the key note [speaker] and the panel debate, we hope to explore that theme from a range of perspectives but focusing on young people’s travel needs,” says Pearce.

“The aim for the day is not only to explore the policy around the mobility needs of young people but also to provide a networking forum for young professionals around Australia and New Zealand.”

The panel members will be finalised at a later date, and Pearce hopes the forum will be the first in many to come.

He says the forum has evolved from the organisations Next Generation strategy, and will provide a valuable professional development and networking opportunity for young people.
