Emergency services were called to Clarence Street on Wednesday just before 4pm, where they found the 53-year-old woman trapped.

She was underneath the bus for close to two hours before being rescued and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, and died a few hours later.

The 70-year-old bus driver was not injured, but he was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
