Commuters encouraged to be active

Wellington commuters are being encouraged to jump off public transport a stop earlier

Wellington commuters are being encouraged to jump off public transport a couple of stops early and walk to work, in an effort to get the community active.

Active a2b encourages people in the Wellington region to make the most of their daily commute during summer by walking, cycling or scooting for all or some of their journey.

Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Active a2b Co-ordinator Christian Williams says being able to enjoy the outdoors on your way to and from work really does make a difference to your state of mind – along with your blood circulation and your health.

“Public transport commuters, for example, could think about getting off one or two stations earlier and walk, or run a new route home,” says Williams.

“As in previous years, Active a2b staff will be available to help motivate and give personalised support to participants who want it.”

Active a2b is open to all commuters throughout the Wellington region.

It runs until April 7 and people can register at www.activea2b.org.nz
