NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian praises extra public transport services provided during major events

Sydney’s public transport system was put to the test during the International Fleet Review celebrations recently, with nearly one million trips made on buses.
New South Wales Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian thanks millions of visitors to Sydney for their patience and strong support of public transport during the celebrations, with coincided with other major events such as the NRL Grand Final.
The historic occasion marks 100 years since the first Royal Australian Navy ships arrived in Sydney.
“Behind the scenes there was tremendous work by a number of hardworking teams making sure Sydneysiders and visitors could move around seamlessly,” she says.
Berejiklian says extensive road closures and clearways meant people needed to use public transport, with more than 5,000 extra services put on.
There were about 1.2 million journeys on trains over the three day long weekend, nearly one million on buses, 200,000 journeys on ferries services, and 10,000 journeys from the secure taxi ranks set up for the event.
“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience in helping us keep Sydney moving during what was a huge logistical challenge,” she says.
“These large crowds provided a significant boost to our economy and the event was a major international success that Sydney can be proud of.”
