‘Keep it basic’

The first tow truck specifically designed for buses in the Sydney area has been showcased to the industry

The first tow truck in the Sydney area specially designed for buses was recently on display for all in the industry to see.

The truck is the first of its kind in the Sydney metro area, and was on display at the Australian Bus + Coach Show 2013 in Sydney last month.

The truck was so new it had not yet been registered when it was on display at the show.

Company Director Barry Hunt says the trailer has been specifically designed for buses and the logistics of negotiating around the city.

“The key benefits of this trailer over other trailers is in the angles for loading and unloading as well as single man use and rear loading all making clearing the road fast and safer than earlier models,” he says.

“It’s important to keep it basic and to the point.”

Although some larger tow trucks can move buses, this has become more difficult in recent years as buses have become lower and are built with setback axles so the fleet of trucks at GRS Towing has followed the trend with the best gear on offer.

Hunt says it can also be difficult to manoeuvre around the city which makes the extendable trailer even more of an asset having the ability to close the chassis and run much shorter than other units when unladed.

“We’ve built the ideal equipment to do the job,” he says.
