Discussion and solution were the aim of the game at the Queensland Bus Industry Council Regional Members Forum at Airlie Beach last weekend.

"We had a good roll up of operators there, as far north as Townsville and up from Mackay," says Executive Director David Tape.

He says the forum – attended by 17 people - was to listen to the issues and problems facing the industry, and offer a solution.

"My key thing is developing relationships with industry and development and breaking down the barriers between us and them," says Tape.

"Sometimes we have to agree to disagree. If we develop those relationships, little things may be able to be fixed."

He says it was a good opportunity for smaller operators and suppliers to come together.

"We have smaller operators that don’t go to conferences. It’s an opportunity for our regional members to meet supply partners that support industry and our supply.

"It’s about working with them… to provide the service we all want at the end of the day – and that’s quality service."

He says the forum is a chance to communicate within the industry instead of a push on selling and purchasing heavy vehicles.

"It’s not useful to some of our supply partners to come along with buses. If they’ve got new product in the area and it’s not hard for them to get it they…. bring along a bus or two."

QBIC will host their AGM in Hervey Bay next April.
