Industry leader Australasian Bus & Coach is celebrating 25 years of publication this month, and the heart of the magazine is beating stronger than ever.

The first issue of ABC was published on September 15, 1988 and now boasts more than 300 issues to date.

Based in Brisbane, the magazine was the founded as there was a gap in the market and a thirst for more bus and coach news of the day.

Founding Editor Andrew Stewart says the first issue consisted of 64 pages and from there, the growth never stopped.

"The first issue was bigger than we expected but basically every issue was bigger in the number of pages and the circulation grew and subscriptions grew.

"ABC, from issue one, was a great magazine and there was never a doubt."

Managing Editor David Goeldner says the publication has continued to grow and develop strong readership base over the years.

"Many more people are becoming interested in the industry. Car use has declined, and more people are looking at public transport options," he says.

"The bus industry is seen as the legs of public transport and all our analysis suggests that the industry is only going to get bigger.

There is going to be some great development in the industry led by Australasian Bus & Coach."

The magazine is now seeking out new territory in which to operate, and is developing faster, highly efficient methods to communicate with industry.

ABC’s online presence will soon appear with a new skin and improved search engine, with the expectation of doubling its reach in the next few years, placing it in an ever more powerful publishing position.

The magazine’s achievement will be celebrated at a gala dinner in Sydney later this month.
