Tenders have been called for construction of a park ‘n’ ride facility in Clovelly Park, South Australia, as part of the Tonsley public transport project.

The
project includes upgrading the Tonsley rail line and stations, a new Tonsley bus interchange, and extension of Flinders Drive to Sturt Road to better connect bus services to Tonsley.

South Australian Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis says tenders for the park ‘n’ ride facility are to be submitted by July 31 for consideration by the state’s Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.

The tender is for development of a 600-space car park for the local community.

"This important infrastructure is about providing South Australian commuters with choices," Koutsantonis says.

"We want to provide them with as many options as possible when deciding how they want to use public transport and park ‘n’ ride is just another way to encourage commuters to make the most of our modernised rail network."

Construction is expected to begin in mid-September with the facility to be completed by December.

"This investment will ensure Tonsley becomes a public transport hub for people in the South getting to and from the city," Koutsantonis says.

The frequency and efficiency of rail and buses services are expected to be improved.

The infrastructure will be funded with the transport development levy.
