Melbourne Airport bus stop relocated

Catching a bus to Melbourne Airport should now be more convenient

June 17, 2013

Catching a bus to Melbourne Airport should
become more convenient from today onwards, with the bus stop now located closer to the airport’s centre.

The bus stop at Melbourne airport will be located at Terminal 1 instead of Terminal 4 from June 17, allowing passengers to disembark closer to the centre of the airport

According to Public Transport Victoria (PTV), the bus stop at Terminal 4 will no longer operate and all passengers travelling to the Airport will need to arrive and depart from Terminal 1.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) reportedly worked with Melbourne Airport in an attempt to
find the
most suitable
site for the Airport bus stop – close to where passengers want to arrive and depart from.

A PTV statement says Terminals 1 and 2 are the most popular destinations for Airport passengers, with around two thirds of SmartBus Route 901 passengers travelling to these terminals

The new terminal location is expected to result in less travel time for most Airport travellers.

Passengers travelling to and from the city can take the train to Broadmeadows Station and board the high-frequency SmartBus Route 901, a short journey from the Airport.

Passengers can travel on the public bus services using myki.

Passengers can catch a local bus to the Airport from Broadmeadows, Essendon and Sunbury stations.

The following bus services arrive and depart from Melbourne Airport:

  • SmartBus Route 901 Melbourne Airport to Frankston – connects to Craigieburn line at Broadmeadows Station
  • Route 478 Moonee Ponds to Melbourne Airport – connects to the Craigieburn line at Essendon Station
  • Route 479 Sunbury to Moonee Ponds – connects to Sunbury line trains at Sunbury Station
  • Route 500 Broadmeadows to Sunbury – connects to Sunbury line trains at Sunbury Station.
