Opal card trial extended

Customer feedback on a new Opal card trial on Manly ferries will help shape a planned rollout on buses

March 27, 2013

Customer feedback on a new Opal card ticketing system trial on Manly ferries in New South Wales will help shape the way the technology is rolled out on buses.

NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian says the Opal customer trial has been extended to the Manly ferry service as part of a progressive rollout.

Berejiklian says feedback from Manly customers will assist with the technology’s rollout on buses, ferries, trains and light rail.

The Manly trial will begin on April 8, 2013 following the customer trial that began on Neutral Bay ferry service in December last year.

More than 5,000 buses and light rail units in NSW are scheduled to have Opal equipment by 2015.

Ongoing fares for the Opal card are set to be detailed later this year.
