V/Line has taken out the major tour and transport operator award at the annual RACV Victorian Tourism Awards.

More than 1,000 of Victoria’s leading tourism businesses and operators gathered for the Melbourne awards ceremony Monday night to celebrate the state’s industry innovators.

V/Line’s acting CEO, Ross Pedley, says the company was honoured to be recognised by the tourism industry.

“It’s not just about tourism, but ticking the boxes on all the vital criteria that make a successful and professional business – from environmental initiatives to managing risks and staff wellbeing,” Pedley says.

“This award also celebrates the enduring appeal and hard work of our frontline staff that focus on delivering excellent customer service.”

V/Line Marketing and Stakeholder Relations General Manager Paul Matthews says V/Line’s campaigns and promotions helped
win the award.

“Exhibitions like the White Wedding Dress and Grace Kelly, Style icon at Bendigo Art Gallery, resulted in 40,000 people travelling with us because we’re a trusted, affordable and easy way to get about,” Matthews says.

“We know that getting people moving around the state has economic benefits for local communities.”

Victorian Public Transport Minister Terry Mulder congratulated V/Line on its work.

“Victoria has a $15.9 billion tourism industry and sustains a tourism workforce of around 204,000 Victorians,” Mulder says.

“I’m very proud that V/Line is part of that picture.”

Victorian Tourism Minister Louise Asher says the awards attracted a record number of entrants.

“There were 140 entrants across 32 categories for this year’s awards, including record numbers from the Great Ocean Road, the Murray and Victoria’s High Country,” Asher says.
