Transit Australia Group (TAG) is a frontrunner to take out the top award at next week’s Queensland Safe Work Awards for
its safety system, which
includes a management plan for terrorist activities and emergencies.

Out of 96 entrants for
the 2012
awards, TAG, Robina has been shortlisted with four other organisations for the safe work ceremony’s flagship award, presented for the best workplace health and safety management system.

According to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, TAG has been selected as finalist for its design and implementation of a safety management system that manages all safety
across the organisation.

TAG
Operations and Service Delivery General Manager Matthew Goebel says the system includes a Disaster Critical and Incident Management Plan to respond to emergencies and terrorist activities.

“All TAG bus drivers and operational staff are trained in our DCIMP – Disaster Critical Incident Management Plan – which gives them the knowledge and skills to follow the specific procedures that ensure all safety measures are carried out if an incident was to occur,” Goebel says.

He says the system also encourages a reporting culture and engaged staff, which has led to further safety initiatives such as trials for padded luggage racks to minimise the risk of head injury, shatter-proof window film and conflict resolution and self defence training to minimise the risk of driver assaults.

“Further to this, new staff are thoroughly inducted and all staff complete refresher training yearly. This training also relates to the procedures to follow in relation to all incidents,” he says.

TAG maintains a fleet of
more than
600 vehicles across Queensland carrying more than 30 million passengers more than 36 million kilometres each year.

“Safety is our top priority in delivering over 30,000 public transport services a week so to be recognised with these awards is a huge pat on the back to all our drivers, maintenance staff and everyone involved with TAG.”

“We are extremely proud to be nominated and shortlisted for these awards. It is a direct result of the dedicated commitment from management and employees alike.”
